Manal, the Himalaya products represent a perfect harmony between the age-old holistic system of healing, Ayurveda and modern-day science, advancing the benefits of wellbeing to families across the globe.

BACKGROUND

In 2018, the Himalaya brand decided to switch their packaging to more sustainable plastics. Counted amongst one of India’s leading FMCG companies, the company was looking at changing the PVC sleeves of their baby powder range to PETG.

CHALLENGE

Switching to PETG was no easy feat. Most of the PVC sleeves were currently being produced by a third-party firm, THDC on a contract-basis using a hot air tunnel which was considered too basic for the production of PETG sleeves.

SOLUTION

Even though PETG sleeves for PP/HDPE containers require more sophisticated shrink tunnels, Taurus Packaging took it as a challenge to successfully develop the PETG sleeves in Himalaya’s existing third-party shrinking infrastructure itself.

We were confident that by modifying our PETG shrink film to suit the prevailing setup, we could get the right results in their existing hot air tunnels. What followed was thorough R&D, multiple rigorous tests on our PETG film and numerous commercial trials at THDC.

RESULTS

Our relentless efforts paid off.

Within a short span of just one year, Taurus Packaging, in collaboration with THDC, successfully established and commercialized the final PETG product for Himalaya.
In 2019, we fully converted Himalaya’s baby powder range to PETG.
The resultant, modified PETG named ‘Next PETG’ became the best PETG to work with for HDPE/PP containers in the hot air tunnel environment.
